“Figure of Speech” is the seventh project of the NOWALLS gallery, created by the Winzavod Center for Contemporary Art in collaboration with Moskomarchitecture. The project’s curator is Alexey Partola, author of the research on Russian street art "Wall Elements".
The work Black Rainbow continues the trajectory set by Alexander Demkin, where figurative realism dissolves into a conditional void, and motion and dynamism become its central motifs. Its visual language is rooted in optical art with an emphasis on digital aesthetics: a moiré pattern, a three-color underlay, and a black top layer that produces a subtle iridescent effect. Within the broader curatorial framework, Black Rainbow becomes a figure of speech in its own right — a visual expression, one of the many languages of street art shaping the urban environment.
